β‘ The 2026 Ranged Identity (Post-EoC 2.0) β
On March 2, 2026, Jagex released the Combat Style Modernisation (commonly referred to as EoC 2.0). Ranged was completely redesigned to center on high-frequency multi-hits and triggering on-hit effects.
Major Modernisation Changes β
- 120 Cap Extension β Ranged skill level now scales up to 120 with updated damage multipliers.
- Ability Cleanup (9 Abilities Removed) β To eliminate rotation bloat, the following abilities were retired/removed:
- Needle Strike, Dazing Shot, Salt the Wound, Fragmentation Shot, Tight Bindings, Demoralise, Rout, Unload, and Incendiary Shot.
- New Imbue Mechanics β Introduces utility spells to match Ranged's on-hit theme:
- Imbue: Shadows (Replaces Incendiary Shot): Buffs you to generate +5% adrenaline per hitsplat for a short duration. Excellent for hyper-charging spenders.
- Imbue: Gales: Grants a flat damage bonus per hitsplat for a short duration. Pairs perfectly with rapid-fire multi-hit abilities.
- No More Switch-scape β Traditional threshold requirements are retired. The Planted Feet weapon switch is gone; Greater Death's Swiftness now natively extends your damage buff duration.
- Auras Disabled/Retired β Offensive combat auras like Reckless and Sharpshooter are retired. Their damage bonuses are now built natively into Ranged level scaling. Use utility/sustain auras like Vampyrism or Penance instead.
WARNING
2026 Meta Commentary: While the modernization cleanup removed rotation bloat, Ranged in July 2026 still has a high "mental tax" and high upkeep costs. This is due to managing multiple arrow types (Ful vs Wen), active Essence of Finality (EoF) special attack switches (such as Seren Godbow), and the high GP cost of consuming Elder God arrows. It is a highly rewarding, high-DPS style but requires active attention.

To optimize your Ranged training, configure these essential settings and understand how XP and damage scale:
1. Combat XP Scaling β
- Formula: You earn 50 combat experience for every 1,000 damage dealt (equivalent to 5% of damage).
- XP Splitting: If you split your XP with Defense, you will get 25 Ranged and 25 Defense XP per 1,000 damage.

2. Accuracy & Target Information β
- Your accuracy is determined by your Ranged level, weapon tier, weapon style, and gear bonuses.
- Accuracy determines how much of your maximum damage you deal. For example, if your max hit is 100 but your target accuracy is 75%, your effective max hit is capped at 75.

3. Exploiting Weaknesses β
Monsters have specific weaknesses to weapon types:
- Arrows: Use a Bow.

- Thrown: Use Darts, Javelins, Chinchompas, etc.
- Matching target weaknesses significantly boosts your combat accuracy.
4. Experience Boosters & QoL Commands β
- In-Game Search: Type
/wiki <item_name>in chat to automatically load the official wiki page for any item. - Scrimshaw of Sacrifice: Extremely powerful boost that increases combat experience by 50%, but destroys all monster drops. Currently costs ~12M GP.

π’ 1. Levels 1-20: Troll Shamans β
- Target: Troll Shamans
- Location: Burthorpe Troll Cave (walk north from Burthorpe or Taverley lodestone).
