🪙 RS3 Fresh Account Money Making Guide (July 2026)
Last updated: July 9, 2026 | Prices verified against RS Wiki GE data and Money making guide rates.
⚡ The 2026 Economy — What Changed
The RS3 economy shifted massively in early-to-mid 2026. Before diving into methods, here's what happened and why it matters for your wallet:
| Update | Date | Impact on Money Making |
|---|---|---|
| Treasure Hunter Removed | Jan 19, 2026 | No more pay-to-win GP/XP injection. Gathered commodities are worth more. |
| DailyScape Overhaul | Mar 16, 2026 | Wilderness Flash Events, Warbands, Daily Challenges, Vis Wax all removed. Many NPC shops switched from daily → weekly restock. |
| Combat Modernisation | Mar 2026 | Attack/Str/Magic/Ranged cap raised to 120. Abilities pruned. Renewed demand for training methods & gear. |
| Havenhythe Expansion | Mar 2026 | Largest area expansion ever. New bosses (Silverquill, Ivar). New Masterwork Ranged Armor chain (uses Apex Sinew, Apex Leather). Dragon leather demand spiked. |
| GE Modernisation | Summer 2026 | Live trade prices shown (avg of last 10 trades). Price shift cap increased from 5% → 20%. Buy limit countdown timers added. |
| Mid-Game Rebalance | Jul 2026 (rolling) | Fletching re-tiered. Boss instance costs permanently removed. Ammo simplified. GWD1/GWD2 QoL. |
IMPORTANT
The Margin Testing Rule: GE guide prices move daily. Before committing to any method, always do a 1-item test run:
- Gathering/Combat: Kill 1 monster, sell the drops instantly on the GE to see the real price.
- Processing: Buy 1 raw material, process it, sell it back. Calculate your actual profit margin (remember the 2% GE tax).
- Compare Variants: Some methods have daily variation (e.g., different herb incense sticks, different dragonhide colours). Test multiple and pick the winner.
🟢 Phase 1: Starting from Absolute Zero (F2P / No Requirements)
These methods require no stats, no starting capital, and work in Free-to-Play.
1. Slaying Cows in Burthorpe (~957k GP/hour)
- Location: Burthorpe / Taverley cow pen (north of the Taverley lodestone — NOT Lumbridge).
- Why Burthorpe? The gnome banker is significantly closer than Lumbridge's cow pen.
- Collect: Cowhides (~656 GP) + Raw Beef (~944 GP). Bones (~207 GP) are optional — burying them frees inventory for more hides/beef.
- Wiki rate: ~540 kills/hr ≈ ~957k GP/hr after tax. after tax. after tax.
- Bonus: Raw Beef can later be cooked into Sinews for more profit (see Phase 2).
2. Draynor Cabbage Picking (~1.5M GP/hour)
- Location: Cabbage field south of the Draynor Village farming patch.
- Method: Harvest cabbages (~1,417 GP each), bank at Draynor (F2P) or use Explorer's Ring cabbage-port + War's Retreat bank (members, faster).
- Wiki rate: ~1,100 cabbages/hr ≈ ~1.5M GP/hr after tax. after tax. after tax. Consistent demand from Player-Owned Farms and questing.
3. Spell Wisps at Wizard's Tower (~1M – 1.2M GP/hour)
- Location: Outside the Wizard's Tower (south of Draynor Village).
- Method: Kill Spell Wisps. Guaranteed drop: Impious Ashes (~1,818 GP each).
- Banking: Use the deposit NPC standing outside the tower — no walking back to Draynor needed.
- Note: Ash prices fluctuate; always check the live GE price before committing a long session.
4. Archaeology Material Farming (F2P, Capped at Level 20)
- Location: Kharid-et digsite.
- Method: Excavate low-level spots. Collect materials such as Third Age Iron (~2,483 GP), Goldrune (~2,325 GP), Samite Silk (~2,262 GP), and Zarosian Insignia (~4,591 GP). Fully AFK — just click and wait.
- Banking: Use the bank chest at the top of the digsite.
- Note: Material prices cooled from the Combat Modernisation launch spike earlier in 2026, but this remains solid passive income.
5. Mining Clay (F2P, Better Than Gem Rocks)
- Location: Burthorpe mines (southwest of the bank).
- Method: Mine clay (~1,014 GP) and sell on the GE. Equip a Bracelet of Clay to automatically soften it into soft clay (~1,462 GP) for higher value.
- Wiki rate: ~940 clay/hr ≈ ~934k GP/hr; with bracelets ≈ ~1.3M GP/hr.
- Why not Gem Rocks? Gem rocks have a 1min 25s respawn timer shared with other players. Clay is faster and more consistent.
- P2P upgrade: Soft clay in Prifddinas (Ithell, 75 Mining + Plague's End) is ~4.2M GP/hr — revisit once unlocked.
🟡 Phase 2: Low-to-Mid Stats Processing (1M–5M Starting Budget)
Once you have some starter GP, these processing methods scale your income dramatically.
1. Tanning Dragonhides (~7M – ~19M GP/hour)
- Requirements: Level 1 Crafting (any hide type works)
- Intensity: High click rate (most profitable active method at low levels)
- Current margins (July 9, 2026):
| Hide | Hide Price | Leather Price | Profit/ea (after tax + tan fee) | ~40k/hr | ~60k/hr |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Green | 587 | 798 | ~175 | ~7M | ~11M |
| Blue | 966 | 1,219 | ~209 | ~8.3M | ~13M |
| Black | 1,654 | 2,031 | ~316 | ~13M | ~19M |
- Method:
- Set up a bank preset: full inventory (28) of dragonhides.
- Use a Portable Crafter next to a bank chest. World 84 Fort Forinthry / Lumbridge Market usually has one deployed.
- Right-click configure the crafter → "Tan Leather".
- Loop: Load preset → Left-click crafter → Press Space → Bank → Repeat.
- Wiki peak efficiency: ~60,000 hides/hour (stockpile past the 10k/4hr buy limit first).
- 2026 Boost: Dragon leather demand remains elevated from the Havenhythe Masterwork Ranged Armor chain (Apex Leather).
- Tip: Test 1 hide + 1 leather first. If the spread is under ~200 GP, switch colours.
2. Cooking Raw Beef into Sinews (~2M – 2.7M GP/hour)
- Requirements: Level 1 Cooking
- Current prices: Raw Beef ~944 GP → Sinew ~2,479 GP (~1,485 GP profit after tax).
- Method: Buy raw beef on the GE → use on a range and choose Make sinew (not cook). Lumbridge Castle kitchen works well.
- Why it works: Sinews feed into crossbow strings and Masterwork / Apex Sinew demand from Havenhythe ranged armour.
- Rate: ~1,500–1,800 sinews/hr ≈ ~2.2M – 2.7M GP/hr. Margins are thinner than the Havenhythe launch spike (sinews briefly hit 6–7k).
- Warning: You will burn meat if you accidentally cook instead of making sinew. Always select the sinew option. Do not use a fire — sinew only works on a range.
3. Molten Glass → Bomb Vials (~2.5M GP/hour + Crafting XP)
- Requirements: Level 54 Crafting (Bomb Vials) | Level 1 Crafting (Beer Glasses — low profit, skip)
- Current prices: Molten Glass ~434 GP → Bomb Vial ~1,849 GP (~1,378 GP profit after tax).
- Wiki rate: ~1,830 vials/hr ≈ ~2.5M GP/hr.
- Why Bomb Vials? Permanently consumed in endgame PvM (Vulnerability Bombs, etc.) — stable demand.
- Note: Beer Glasses (~610 GP) only clear ~164 GP each after tax — not worth it as a primary method.
4. Incense Sticks (~5.8M – ~12M GP/hour)
- Requirements: Level 35–75 Firemaking (varies by stick type)
- Method: Buy ashy incense sticks + clean herbs on the GE → combine into finished incense sticks. Quick-cense (Garden of Kharid) roughly doubles output — highly recommended.
- Current wiki rates (adding herbs, with Quick-cense):
| Stick | Level | Approx. GP/hr |
|---|---|---|
| Spirit weed | 35 | ~12M |
| Kwuarm | 54 | ~5.8M |
| Lantadyme | 67 | ~8M |
| Torstol | 75 | ~9.3M |
- Best Types to Test: Spirit Weed, Torstol, Lantadyme, Kwuarm, Dwarf Weed. Margins change daily — always test 1 first.
- Why it works: Incense sticks are consumed in PvM and skilling. Always in demand.
- 2026 Note: Prices spike during Double XP events. Stockpile materials before DXP and sell finished sticks during.
- AFK Level: High — great second-monitor activity. Ashy-stick buy volume can be thin; be patient on buy offers.
5. Fort Forinthry Construction (Refined Planks)
- Requirements: Level 40 Construction (complete the New Foundations quest for instant Level 40 + unlocks). Higher planks need higher Construction (Magic 80, Elder 90).
- GP Rate: ~2M – 5.3M GP/hour depending on plank tier (market-dependent).
- Current wiki highlights: Refined Magic planks ~4.6M | Refined Elder planks ~5.3M. Lower tiers (Willow/Maple) land closer to ~2–3M/hr.
- Method: Buy planks on the GE → process into Refined Planks at the Fort Forinthry sawmill (4 planks → 1 refined) → optionally process further into Wooden Frames (~23.9k each).
- Strategy: Stockpile frames before Double XP events, then slow-sell them for peak prices.
🔵 Phase 3: Mid-to-High Level Methods (P2P)
1. Necrotic Rune Crafting (~36M – ~52M GP/hour optimised) ⭐ TOP METHOD
- Requirements: Runecrafting (110+ for best multipliers), Impure Essence (~138 GP), Rune Mythos quest
- Method: Craft Spirit, Bone, Flesh, or Miasma necrotic runes at the Necromantic Rune Temple altars. Use an Abyssal Titan familiar for extra essence capacity.
- Current wiki rates (full setup — pouches, ethereal outfit, powerbursts, Passing Bracelet, etc.):
| Rune | Approx. GP/hr after tax |
|---|---|
| Spirit | ~52M |
| Bone | ~41M |
| Flesh | ~39M |
| Miasma | ~36M |
- Why it dominates: Necrotic runes are consumed by every Necromancy player — rituals, combat, everything. Demand is insatiable.
- AFK Level: Semi-active (altar runs), but exceptionally profitable.
- Realistic expectation: Without the full endgame setup, expect substantially less (often still 15M–30M+). Always margin-test with your actual trip rate.
- 2026 Note: Still one of the most consistent non-combat profit methods post-TH removal.
2. Fletching Onyx Bolts (~9.6M GP/hour GE, ~45M+ GP/hour via High Alch)
- Requirements: Level 73 Fletching
- Current prices: Onyx Bolt Tips ~7,713 + Rune Bolts ~155 → Onyx Bolts ~6,768 GE | High Alch 8,179.
- Method:
- Buy Rune Bolts + Onyx Bolt Tips on the GE.
- Join World 84. Use a Portable Fletcher. Equip Fletching Cape + Brooch of the Gods. Ranger's Workroom T2 helps.
- Attach tips to bolts. Passive buffs (cape, brooch, portable, workroom) create extra bolts beyond materials consumed.
- Prefer High Alch right now — GE guide price sits below alch value. Use an Auto-Alchemiser Mk II to automate, or alch manually.
- Wiki GE rate: ~9.6M GP/hr after tax (with extras). Alching the same output is far higher (~45M+ depending on extras and speed).
- Buy Limit Warning: Onyx Bolt Tips and Rune Bolts are 10k each / 4 hours. Slow-buy in advance.
- 2026 Note: July's Fletching re-tier may change level requirements — monitor patch notes. Always re-check whether GE or alch is better before bulk buying.
3. Spinning Starbloom Flowers into Cloth (~8.6M GP/hour, Fully AFK)
- Requirements: Level 100 Crafting
- Current prices: Starbloom Flower ~15,489 | Starbloom Thread ~13,684 | Starbloom Cloth ~46,098.
- Method (recommended):
- Buy Starbloom Flowers → spin into Starbloom Thread at a spinning wheel (Fort Forinthry Ranger's Workroom, next to bank).
- Weave threads into Starbloom Cloth at a loom (2 threads = 1 cloth).
- Sell cloth. Wiki rate: 1,210 flowers → 605 cloth/hr ≈ ~8.6M GP/hr after tax.
- Important: Spinning flowers into thread and selling the thread currently loses money (thread GE price is below flower price). Always finish into cloth.
- Buy-limit tip: Thread has almost no GE volume even though it looks cheap — buy flowers, not thread.
- 2026 Note: Margins have tightened since introduction. Re-check flower vs cloth prices before bulk buying.
4. Slayer Tasks (Variable, Scales with Level)
- Method: Complete Slayer assignments, collect salvage drops and alchables.
- GP Rate: Scales massively with combat level. High-level tasks (Abyssal Demons, Rune Dragons) are commonly 5M–15M+ GP/hr.
- Tips: Use Slayer masks to force profitable tasks. Necromancy makes clearing tasks very fast.
- 2026 Note: Post-Combat Modernisation, Slayer is one of the best ways to simultaneously train combat to 120 AND make money.
5. Easy Clue Scrolls (~2M – 5M GP/hour)
- Method: Pickpocket H.A.M. Members (Lumbridge) to obtain Easy Clue Scrolls. Solve using the Alt1 Toolkit.
- Why it works: Rewards include Fortunate Component fodder (Bob shirts ~978k each, trimmed armour, etc.) that high-level players disassemble for Invention. Individual clue value varies wildly — expect streaks of dry and juicy clues.
- Tools: Alt1 Toolkit for instant puzzle solving. Join the Clue Chasers Discord for community help.
- Note: GP/hr is highly RNG-dependent; treat the range as a long-run average, not a guarantee.
📅 Optimized Weekly/Daily Routine (Post-DailyScape Overhaul)
WARNING
The March 2026 DailyScape Overhaul converted many daily shops to weekly restocks. Old "daily shop run" guides are outdated.

Still Daily
| Item | Shop Location | Notes |

💰 GE Flipping (Passive Income Layer)
- Core Concept: Buy items at the "slow buy" price → sell at the "insta buy" price. Pocket the margin.
- 2026 GE Changes: Price shift cap increased from 5% → 20% (prices correct faster). Live trade data now shown. Factor in the 2% GE tax.
- Strategy: Set buy/sell orders, then go do other activities. Diversify across 8 trade slots (members).
- Pro Tip: Flip items you can also process — e.g., if raw beef crashes, you can cook it into sinews instead of selling at a loss.
- Watch For: Update-driven price spikes (Havenhythe, Mid-Game Rebalance, DXP announcements).
- Resources: GE Market Watch, Money making guide, RS Wiki price trackers.
